The West Central Regional Sustainable Development Partnership serves twelve west central Minnesota counties: Big Stone, Chippewa, Douglas, Grant, Kandiyohi, Lac qui Parle, Pope, Renville, Stevens, Swift, Traverse, and Yellow Medicine.
The west central region borders the Dakotas and is part of the upper Minnesota River Basin water shed. Some of the Regional counties include parts of the Red River Prairie, and Hardwood Hills.
Agriculture production and manufacturing is the primary economic base; with an emerging tourism industry. Most of the communities in the region are less than 5,000 in population with the exception of Morris (home of the University of Minnesota-Morris campus and the West Central Research and Outreach Center), Montevideo, Alexandria, and Willmar.
