The Northwest Partnership region has a high percentage of land in agricultural production. The broad lake plain and adjacent beach ridges offer production capabilities as well as conservation challenges. Combined with a cooler climate these landscape features make possible cropping systems that are unique to the region. NW MN has historically had high rate of wind erosion, and has in recent years also dealt with excess moisture. Natural resource professionals and farmers are responsible to manage public and private lands for environmental and ecological benefits. The pending farm bill includes new programs to address conservation concerns, and will offer states flexibility in program implementation. The goal of this project is to ensure that the Conservation Security Program and other emerging Conservation opportunities are implemented in a way that allows producers in NW MN to capitalize on the new provisions.
