Serving west central Minnesota by promoting active citizenship; helping the west central region attain a sustainable future; and building strong partnerships with the University of Minnesota and region.
Vision Statement
A group of diverse citizens and their University working together for viable, sustainable communities and enhanced quality of life.
Mission Statement
The West Central Regional Sustainable Development Partnership is launching education and research that help people understand and achieve sustainability in their region. The people of the region are key to fulfilling this mission. Therefore, the primary task of the Partnership is to inform, listen to, respond to, and build capacity in the people of the region to achieve and balance three kinds of sustainability: sustainability of natural resources, sustainability of agriculture and other economic enterprises, and sustainability of community.
Our Values and Vision in the next 5, 10, 20 years in West Central Minnesota
We survive and reverse the current political trend of individualism and polarization of sectors/ interest groups to a region that values cooperation, forms alliances-- including our urban and suburban partners-- and focus on mutual interest vs. divergent views to solve problems with long-term solutions.
We value diversity of people, land, and economy and expand our understanding and knowledge through interactions, travel and "walking in their shoes".
We apply our work to the future and the "what ifs", taking risk on ideas and solutions that could affect trends and solve problems in both short and long term futures.
We look at the non-intentional outcomes as well as the intentional outcomes of possible solutions to long-term problems and future scenarios.
We value the health and well being of families. We support programs for families to achieve a quality of life that sustains our region economically, socially, and environmentally.
Our Role:
We nurture our partnerships vs. only funding projects. This includes using our human capital to:
- being involved in projects;
- finding connections with U of M and other community groups and organizations; and
- planning for long term goals as well as short term goals
